Living the dream
16 November 2004

When I was a little boy, and people asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I always said, "I wanna be a project assistant at a corporate law firm!" (in that cute little kids' patois, with W's instead of R's).

Well, nine months ago I acheived that goal.

And yesterday was an especially salient manifestation of that acheivement when, after being in the office for fourteen hours, I got into a cab where I was so proud of myself that I dozed off in the back seat during the eight-minute ride, then climbed the stairs to my apartment and immediately collapsed onto the couch, so awed by the day's accomplishments that I could not even turn on the Simpsons, or drink the (presumably congratulatory) beer my roommate had just bought for me.

Yes, these are the moments to cherish, the moments when I reflect on my adult life thus far and ponder the numerous obstacles I had to overcomemy liberal arts education, my love of music, and my licensure as a public educatorto finally arrive at my true calling: helping defend multinational pharmaceutical companies against elderly people with kidney failure.
