THE ORIGINAL:
There is a famous old story about a man who dreamed he was walking along the beach with God. The beach represented his whole life, and there were two sets of footprints in the sand: his and God's. But at certain points, during the difficult times of his life, there was only one set of footsteps. The man said to God, "Lord, why did You leave me then, when I needed You most?" God replied, "My son, I never left you. Where you see only one set of footprints, that's when I was carrying you."
VARIATION 1:
