Summer 1985.

We're driving east on one of our epic trips to see relatives. I ask my parents what would happen if I opened the car door while the car was traveling so fast on the interstate.

They think for a moment, then my father says: "It would probably be blown off in the wind."

A second goes by before my mother snickers and says, "Then we'd have a Jeep!"

They both crack up. My brother and I exchange alarmed looks.
