Kansas City
09 October 2003

Still in Kansas City. We have a short drive today to Columbia. We'll have to find something to occupy ourselves with once we get there, since we spent a lot of time yesterday puttering around, waiting for the show to start. I did get to do some laundry, however, and we met up with Dino's friend Jane, who is old friends with a former roommate of mine. Small world ... Kansas City seems like a nice town, though we were approached by panhandlers four separate times, twice by the same guy who'd forgotten that we'd already given him money.

The show itself was good. The Brick is a nice, small place, so even a dozen people can give one the impression that one's show is well-attended. Our playing is definitely improving. The challenge will be to develop a tight, well-rehearsed set without it getting too automatic or routine. We'll probably try testing out some new songs and mixing the set up a little as time allows.

We played with a guy named Chris Tolle, who is in a band called the Belles. Apparently they have a pretty popular single right now and are signed to a major label. Anyway, we stayed at his house, but Dino had to sleep in the van because there are cats. In any case, the Belles' album is called Omerta and it's pretty good; we've been listening to it in the van.

On to Columbia ...
