These foolish things
03 December 2003

I am going to go down to the fat cats at ThoughtWorks and tell them to stop making my roommate work in Moline during the week. Being alone in this apartment is making me crazy. Like, Ray Smith at the end of The Dharma Bums crazy. Okay, maybe that's being a little melodramatic.

So they show three Simpsons episodes a day here. I've figured out the pattern, I think: the first episode, at five, is from the early days, but not wincingly, different-Homer-voice early, maybe season three or so, when the show was still finding its legs. Charming, but slower-paced. The second episode, at six, is from the later- to post-golden era period, like 1997-1998. These shows aren't as good as the golden era, but they're still funny and well-structured and the jokes come at the right pace. And then at ten we get some shit-can episode from the intolerable 2001-present era, just to end the day on a crap note.

I returned from Thanksgiving to find a DreamCast hooked up to the TV. If it was there before, I hadn't noticed. Either way, bitchin'.
