In love with the beautiful letdown
09 December 2003

When I wake up already nostalgic for something, it's hard to shake it. This morning it was the summer, and while a lot of things were wrong with the summer of 2003, a lot of things were right. Like my job. So I spent the morning missing the kids at the day care, and also my hot hot co-worker. I think she's in Australia now. The important thing is that she is hot.

Last night Courtney and I went to see Bad Santa which was thoroughly enjoyable, much better than the ads make it look. Very misanthropic and cynical, but somehow cathartic. It's satisfying to see a film about redemption where the hero is redempted in a realistic way.

Anyway, before the previews, we were listening to the theatre's radio system and some stupid song by some shitty n-rock Three Doors Blind ripoff band was playing. After it ended, the DJ said, "That was Switchfoot! with the new single from their album The Beautiful Letdown!" And Courtney and I just cracked up. Can you imagine the day those dipshits decided on that album name? And the band's name itself? SWITCHFOOT? During the rest of the time leading up to the movie, including previews, we kept blurting out other band names with ridiculous album titles, like "The new album from VAGINASHIRT entitled, THE REGRETTABLE PURCHASE!"

It was funny at the time.
