Capture the flag
23 October 2004

Exactly one year ago today, I was sitting in this exact same spot.

Yesterday was jam-packed with excitement from wall to wall. We went to the Neue Gallerie, then headed south and walked across the Brooklyn Bridge. I highly recommend it. The one hour of sunlight we've had all week began just as we were halfway across. Pictures soon in the photo log.

Last night, we headed out to a party at Alice's in Brooklyn. To get there, we had to take the 3 train down to Union Square, pass through seven different security checkpoints, show our passports, walk through two tunnels, get on the L train (which travels under the St Lawrence Seaway, FYI), transfer to the 3.14 bus, take that through the Holland tunnel, disembark at Hampstead Heath, walk 624 paces to the Tree of Reckoning in the middle of the Forest of Forgotten Memories, knock sixteen times on the door in the middle of the tree, and say the secret password.* Finally, we were led by the Master Gate Keeper through a series of dank catacombs before finally emerging in Alice's neighborhood in south Williamsburg, which looked just as much like the Twin Cities as it did Brooklyn. Margaret got to see her friends from college and I got to be treated like a cultural artifact because I graduated from college way back in 1999. All in all, a successful evening.

Today we leave. There should be a new computer waiting for me when I get home. Clear the way, Chicago.
