Aden pointed out later how the snow was falling softly, not driven sideways by the wind as it has been lately. And it wasn't so bitterly cold. So it made the long walk to and from Tuman's tolerable. While the rest of the bar, newly refurbished with classly wooden and brass fixtures and insanely reasonable drink prices, was crammed with wall to wall patrons, we sat in the back room in a booth and nursed our drinks slowly so as to avoid too-frequent trips back to the bar.
So, it was a Chicago winter wonderland. Aden made us stop at the corner of Leavitt and Hoyne to watch the snow fall. Then we continued on to his place, where we turned on channel 28, which broadcasts MTV 2 after midnight. So keep in mind this is network television, available to anyone with rabbit ears. Andrew WK was hosting a countdown of the most controversial videos. So we got to see (on network television, don't forget) Prodigy's video for "Smack My Bitch Up", Metallica's "Turn The Page", and Bjrk's "Pagan Poetry", all of which contain a lot of nudity. Not just brief flashes, but prolonged, close-up shots of bare breasts and genitalia and, in Bjrk's case, her nipples being pierced. In a wholly gratuitous fashion. On network television. Emceed by Andrew WK. It pretty much just made up for my whole dreary, directionless day.
On the way home at 4 am, I slipped on the ice and fell on my ass. My first instinct was to look around and see if there were any witnesses.
Saturday.
Laid around the house all day doing crosswords and writing poems (for real) until Aden asked me to tag along on a trip to Home Depot; he plied me with hamburgers. I returned home from Wendy's to find my prodigal roommate home from Scandanavia bearing strange Finnish liquor and a CD of German hip hop. And then today he bought us a DVD player. And next week we're getting a cat, so any suggestions for names would be much appreciated.
The soundtrack to my life, right now:
