Eternal sunshine of a dangerous mind
27 March 2004

Here's a question for anyone who's seen Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind: How would one pay for the procedure and not notice, afterwards, a large sum of money missing from their funds? And how would a Barnes & Noble employee be able to afford such a procedure?

Urgent text message from Jason: "I sent money to Chicago Public Radio. We're getting Newsweek. If you got it too, I'm going to spit."

Spent a good portion of the afternoon updating the Address Book on my computer, especially assigning hilarious mug shots to all my friends' entries. Then I reconfigured the interior lighting paradigm of the apartment. Anything to avoid the beautiful weather outside.

When I was a child, Saturday afternoons and evenings meant being downstairs, playing with the toys we'd badgered our mother into buying that day (usually He-Man or Go-Bots orjoy of joysGI Joe or the Transformers) at Wal-Mart (still a novelty), safe in the cozy warmth of the kitchen (smaller, pre-renovation), Mom cooking dinner and Garrison Keillor's soothing, almost soporific voice on the radio, school on Monday still a distant, unthreatening, barely imminent eventuality. That's the news from Lake Wobegon.
